About GRU

Gainesville Regional Utilities is a multi-service utility owned by the City of Gainesville. We are the fifth-largest municipal electric utility in Florida.

Our combined services make us the most comprehensive utility service provider in the state. We serve approximately 93,000 retail and wholesale customers in Gainesville and surrounding areas, offering:

Community Relations Department

GRU is fortunate to work with so many wonderful people, organizations and institutions that are committed to helping us advance our values and allow us to be an active participant in the betterment of our community. Our team is responsible for the following:

  • Serve as an information resource and point of contact for customers, community groups and elected officials.
  • Seek opportunities to leverage GRU’s financial and human resources to make Gainesville a better place.
  • Lead and participate in the identification and resolution of issues of community concern.
  • Promote GRU as a resource to the community as well as to city, county and state officials.
  • Serve as GRU’s ombudsman.
  • Develop programs that meet the emerging needs of customers and communities.
  • Manage GRU’s participation in charitable campaigns and fundraisers.

Our department’s activities are guided by our mission and values and our community relations strategy, which helps us stay focused on being a good community partner while making a positive impact in the communities where we live and do business.
